MSW Stipend Program

About the Program
EKU Training Resource Center provides program support and oversight for the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services MSW Stipend Program. The MSW Stipend Program is a creative education and workforce development model that supports the learning organization of Kentucky's Cabinet for Health and Family Services (CHFS), Department for Community Based Services (DCBS). The program is intended to increase the number of supervisors and caseworkers with graduate degrees serving children and families in Kentucky. To be eligible for the program, applicants must currently be employed by the Cabinet for Health and Family Services, Department for Community Based Services, Protection and Permanency (P&P) Division in a child welfare-related position.

Evaluation and program research continues on the MSW Stipend Program. According to evaluation research collected from the 2018 retention report, students feel they have increased their knowledge and skills as a Cabinet Social Worker by participating in the MSW Stipend Program. They also think that the MSW Stipend Program is a tremendous benefit to eligible DCBS workers wishing to continue their education.

"Many people want to continue their education in order to provide the best possible services to the families they serve; however, financial barriers often prevent some people from being able to return to school. This program allows the opportunity for well deserving employees to continue their education, which in turn, places highly qualified individuals within the agency the ability to advance in their career and further help the communities we serve."       - Recent Graduate
